Update: How Scala Sports
is quietly renewing the infrastructure
of international racket sports through 200,000 players

Scala Sports may largely operate under the radar for the outside world, but behind the scenes, an impressive Dutch success story is unfolding. In a short period of time, the sport tech company has grown into the indispensable technological engine behind some of the largest and most prestigious racket sports federations in the world. Where the adventure once began as an accessible consumer app for local tennis players, Scala now provides the crucial enterprise infrastructure for tennis giants such as the American (USTA), British (LTA), and soon the Australian tennis federation (TA).

With this strategic transformation into a high-quality B2B2C platform, Scala Sports has claimed a unique market position. Instead of competing for the favor of the individual consumer, the company now serves as the technological backbone of the official sports federations. This has instantly given them access to a gigantic, financially powerful ecosystem and allows them to indirectly reach around 200,000 active players worldwide. The transformation from app to fundamental sports infrastructure is thus a reality.

Below, founders Leon and Bart take us through their strategic shift, technological milestones, and their ambitious roadmap for the coming years.

The B2B2C Transformation: From Consumer App to Sports Infrastructure

Over the past four years, Scala Sports has undergone a fundamental pivot. "In the early years, we focused directly on the end user, but we quickly realized where the real scalability lies," explain Leon and Bart. "National sports federations have the network, the established name, and the direct relationship with their community. What they often lack is the flexible, modern technology to optimally serve those players. We have shifted our focus to a B2B2C model: we provide the advanced technology and operational flow on the back end, enabling the federations to offer their community a premium experience."

This strategy is paying off. By joining forces with tennis federations in major markets such as the US, the UK, and Australia, Scala Sports has created a tremendous flywheel that now facilitates 200,000 active players on the courts.

Focus for the next 12–24 months & DSTF support

The priorities for the near future are clearly defined:
Dominance within existing networks: Becoming the go-to player app for current partners by continuously adding new formats that appeal to both recreational and competitive players.

Aggressive growth in the US: The American market is gigantic. "Our revenue in the US is growing by over 130% this year, while we are only serving a fraction of the market. There will be a huge commercial focus there in the coming period."

How can the DSTF network help with this? Scala Sports can specifically leverage the power of the DSTF network on two fronts:

  • Warm introductions: Direct access to international companies, sports federations, and governing bodies to accelerate the rollout of the platform.
  • Commercial partnerships: Introductions to ambitious companies and brands that want to claim strong, targeted visibility within the active community of racket sports players, for example through partnerships or innovative sponsorship within official federation environments.
