Dutch Sport Tech Fund invests in Homefans, a scale-up that serves as a platform for sports travel and experiences. Homefans connects travelers seeking unique activities with local fans. The platform aims to become a global market leader and hopes to benefit from the knowledge and network of Dutch Sport Tech Fund.
“At sixteen, I flew with my father to Manchester to attend United’s matches. As much fun as those games were, the football trips started to feel the same: always the same walk around the stadium and the same touristy bars and restaurants. What was missing was the local experience. When we got in touch with home fans – Homefans – we ended up in real supporters’ pubs and learned their songs and traditions. That changed the whole match experience. That’s how I came up with the idea for Homefans. The Homefans platform gives sports fans access to special matches guided by local fans. These are unique experiences.”
“Since the launch of our platform, Homefans has had more than 500 hosts in 95 destinations and over 16,000 unique customers. The platform holds a strong position in Latin America and Western European destinations, with football experiences accounting for 90% of all bookings. Many of our customers come from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States, but also from many other countries and continents, even from Japan.”
“Within three years, we want to be the market leader in football trips and then grow to become the global market leader in sports experiences. We also want to add experiences with sports legends, for example, having them give you a tour of a stadium where they have played. Additionally, we want to scale up to other sports such as rugby and basketball. That would accelerate our growth even further.”
