DSTF2
 brings
 performance,
digital media,
 data and
fan engagement together

The sports technology market is experiencing accelerated growth, heading towards a size of €117 billion by 2034. Driven by digitalization, AI, and changing consumer behavior, sports is evolving into a data-driven, platform-oriented industry. With the launch of Dutch Sport Tech Fund II (DSTF2), DSTF is explicitly focusing as an investor on sustainable sports technology and data companies that are enabling this transformation.

AI, sports and technology as the foundation for the future

Sports technology is changing the way we view sports. Personalized fan experiences, real-time data, and direct digital interaction between athletes, clubs, media, and fans are becoming increasingly important. Research by Capgemini shows that 54% of fans now use AI tools to find sports information, while 59% trust AI-generated sports content.

‘Technology not only creates value for top athletes, but especially for fans and recreational athletes’

Richard Bruens, CEO DSTF2

What fans, and especially the younger generations, want is depth and interaction. Both during sporting events and within digital communities. Approximately 70% of fans desire real-time statistics during matches. Moreover, 27% of fans are willing to pay extra for AI-enhanced viewing experiences. In this way, technology not only creates engagement but also entirely new revenue models.

Targeted investment in five strategic verticals

For investors in DSTF2, this is the moment where vision and returns come together. The fund invests in companies that are part of a larger ecosystem and add structural value. The focus is on five verticals, supported by concrete applications:

  • Data & Predictive Analytics
AI-driven systems that process data for performance optimization and talent identification. For example, platforms that use smartphone cameras to analyze the skills of young people, making talent immediately visible to scouts.

  • Human Performance & Athlete Wellness
Software and data solutions that improve the health and resilience of athletes. Think of grassroots sports apps that lower the threshold to participate in sports and build social communities around sports facilities, such as padel and tennis platforms.
  • OTT, Digital Media & Immersive Technologies
The shift from traditional TV to interactive digital media and immersive experiences. This includes platforms that enable micro-payments for specific match highlights or interactive feeds where the viewer is in control.

  • Esports & Fantasy Sports
Combining competitive gaming with interactive fan experiences. A well-known example is Scorito, the leading platform for fantasy sports where fans create their own teams based on the live performances of professional athletes.

  • Fan Engagement & Digital Communities
Building interactive ecosystems where physical and digital experiences come together. This is achieved by 'gamifying' the stadium experience, where fans are directly rewarded via apps for their engagement and predictions during the match.

How does DSTF2 differ from DSTF1?

Although both funds operate in the same market, the investment strategy of DSTF2 is fundamentally structured differently to offer a more mature return:

DSTF2 builds on a proven track record

While DSTF1 focused on the early stage, DSTF2 invests later in the chain in companies that are moving towards a strategic exit or IPO. Led by CEO Richard Bruens, who combines his experience at Van Lanschot Kempen and Feyenoord, the fund has the right network to select the winners of tomorrow.

Driven by the growing demand in the market, we see that there is an increasing professional need for high-quality investments in sports and technology; that is why DSTF2 has been specifically tailored for family offices and other professional investors. Nevertheless, similar to the successful approach of DSTF1, this fund will also continue to keep a sharp eye out for promising startups with the potential to disrupt the market.
