In July 2022, DSTF acquired a stake in Link My Ride. The app builds a cool cycling community and helps you plan your cycling ride in advance wherever you are; who you’re riding with, which route to take, where to stop for a healthy meal, etc.

Why does Dutch Sport Tech Fund invest in Link my Ride

The company

Link My Ride was founded by Tom Pidcock, the modest 22-year-old British superstar and multi-cycling champion. He is the cyclocross world champion, won last year’s queen stage in the Tour de France on Alpe d’Huez, and aims to finish on the podium this year. His co-founder is former professional cyclist Jacques Sauvagnargues. Several professional cyclists, as well as Super League Triathlon founder Michael Dhulst, Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas, and an Olympic triathlon champion are also co-shareholders.

This year, they have expanded their team with former top managers from Komoot (a competitor of Strava) and Zwift.

The market

Where Strava (90 million users) processes your post-ride data in the cycling world, Link My Ride aims to become the pre-ride market leader. There are approximately 16 million cyclists worldwide who are members of one of the 158,000 cycling clubs. They use both a white-label B2B approach via cycling federations and clubs, as well as a B2C approach by building a cycling community and offering services directly to the user.

The expectation

The cycling market is expected to grow by more than 20% per year in the coming period. Link My Ride currently has 45,000 users, but aims to activate 250,000 users by the end of 2024 through approximately 8,500 clubs and 3,200 companies. The existing plans and prospects inspire confidence in achieving this goal. The first customers are coming through cycling federations from countries such as Canada, the USA, Great Britain, Australia, South Africa, and Luxembourg. Highly prominent influencers have shown interest, and contracts are being signed with well-known clothing brands (Chaptr3, Kales, Bioracer). Tom Pidcock and all other people in the ecosystem will actively promote Link My Ride and its charitable goals through various events. In June 2024, Link My Ride will launch a similar “running” app.
